CM Denies Pollution in Yamuna

Despite the fact that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) had to shut down two of its treatment plants at Wazirabad and Chandrawal following high level of ammonia in the Yamuna waters, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today denied any sort of pollution in the canal. Hooda said he had got the matter examined and there was no excessive inflow of ammonia into the Yamuna waters within the state. Taps in various parts of the national capital had went dry on Monday after the DJB shut the two treatment plants in view of the presence of ammonia in the waters which was above permissible limits. The water supply in north, central, west and south Delhi was affected and as per reports, the situation is unlikely to improve till tomorrow. The limit of ammonia in water has increased to 1.4 part per million compared to the required 0.6 part per million. The DJB officials had been attributing the rise in ammonia levels to the increase in pollutants being released in the Yamuna by Haryana.
