Thermal Power Station Panipat, a bunching of eight individual units with total installed capacity of 1367.8 MW is located about 8 KM in the west of Panipat city on Panipat-Hisar National Highway and is surrounded by cultivated green fields. In addition,   640 acres of saline waste land is earmarked for disposal of ash. The plant is equipped with a huge residential colony to ensure availability of staff and officers round the clock.  Unit No. 1 was commissioned on 1st November, 1979  Haryana day by the then President of India Shri Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy with subsequent commissioning of Units-II, III, IV, V, VI, VII & VIII.

1x117.8 MW + 3x110 MW + 2x210 MW + 2x250 MW =1367.8 MW

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PLANT (PLANT AS A WHOLE)

Generation & PLF :

 

The generation & P.L.F. during the year 2009-10 was 10206.827 MU & 85.19% respectively which is the highest since commissioning of all the units.

Auxiliary consumption :

 The auxiliary consumption of the station during the year 2008-09 was 9.42% which is the lowest since commissioning of all the units.

Specific Oil consumption :

 The specific oil consumption of the station during the year 2007-2008 was 1.14 ml/Kwh which is the lowest since commissioning of all the units.

Specific coal consumption :                                                    

 The specific coal consumption of the station during the year 2006-2007 was 0.699 Kg/Kwh which is the lowest since commissioning of all the units.

 

(A) ACHIEVEMENTS OF STAGE I & II (1x117.8 + 3X110  MW UNITS) :  

 Units 1 to 4 generated 2681.40 MU(PLF 68.38%) during the year 2009-10 which is the 2nd highest generation since commissioning of all these units.  First highest generation was 2800.1989 MU(PLF 72.45%) during 2003-04.

 Aux. consumption units 1 to 4 remained 11.40% during 2009-10 which is the 2nd lowest auxiliary consumption since commissioning of these units.  First lowest auxiliary consumption was 11.05% during 2003-04.

Specific oil consumption of units 1 to 4 remained 2.44 ml/kwh during 2009-10 which is the lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of these units.  Earlier lowest was 2.92 ml/kwh in 2006-07

 Monthly Specific oil consumption of units 1 to 4 remained 0.91 ml/kwh during June,2009 which is the lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of these units.  The earlier lowest was 1.80 ml/kwh during 05/2007.

 Heat rate of units 1 to 4 remained 3225 kcal/kwh  during 2009-10 which is the lowest since commissioning of these units.  The earlier lowest was 3341 kcal/kwh during FY 2006-07.

 

(UNIT 1):

 Unit 1 was recommissioned after R&M on 07-04-2009 with an updated capacity of 117.8 MW.

 Unit-1st (117.8 MW) generated 815.156 MU (PLF 79.08%) during this year which is the highest generation from this unit since its commissioning.

 Specific oil consumption of unit 1 remained 1.95 ml.kwh which is the lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of this unit.

 Unit-1st (117.8 MW) generated 81.234 MU (PLF 95.78%) during Nov.09 which is the highest monthly generation from this unit since its commissioning.

 Heat Rate of unit 1 remained 3047 kcal/kwh after its Rehabilitation. Earlier lowest was 3342 Kcal/kwh during FY 2006-07.

 

(Unit 2):

 Specific oil consumption of unit 2 remained 2.10 ml/kwh which is the lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of this unit.

 Unit-2nd (110 MW) remained in continuous operation from 24-09-09/17:39 hrs to 13-11-09/10:10 hrs=49 days, 16 hrs, 31 minutes, which is the 2nd highest continuous running since commissioning of the unit.  First highest was of 72 days in FY 2008-09.

 

(Unit 3):

 Unit-3rd (110 MW) remained in continuous operation from 18-05-09/08:10 hrs to 13-07-09/11:05 hrs=56 days, 2 hrs, 55 minutes, which is the highest continuous running since commissioning of the unit.

 (B) ACHIEVEMENTS OF STAGE III, IV, V  & VI (2x210 MW + 2X250  MW UNITS) :  

 

(Unit 4 to 8):

 Units 4 to 8 generated 7525.427 MU(PLF 93.38%) during the year which is the 2nd highest generation since commissioning of all these units.First highest generation was 7564.9426 MU(PLF 93.61%) during 2007-08.

 Monthly Heat rate of units 4 to 8 remained 2492 kcal/kwh  during Oct. 09 which is the lowest since commissioning of these units.  1st lowest Heat Rate was 2492 kcal/kwh during May, 05.

 Monthly highest P.L.F. of Unit 5 to 8 remained 100.91% during Nov., 2009 which is the 3rd highest figure since the inception of these units.  Highest PLF of 102.71% remained during Feb., 2009.

 600 no. wagons were uploaded on 30-10-09 which is ever-highest no. of wagons unloaded in any day.

 

(Unit 5):

 Heat rate of unit-5th (210 MW) during 2009-10 remained 2689 kcal/kwh which is lowest since commissioning of this unit.  Earlier lowest Heat Rate was 2705 Kcal/kwh in FY 2007-08.

 Unit-5th (210 MW) remained in continuous operation from 15-09-09/09:57 hrs to 02-01-10/01:55 hrs=108 days, 15 hrs, 58 minutes, which is the 2nd longest continuous running since commissioning of the unit (Also the unit tripped due to Grid failure itself).  The 1st longest continuous running was for 109 days, 13 hrs, 25 minutes.

 

(Unit 6):

The unit was commissioned on coal firing on 04-07-2001 & dedicated on commercial run w.e.f 20-09-2001.  The unit has been commissioned in a record period of 33 months from the date of start of erection.

 Year highest P.L.F. of unit-6th (210 MW) remained 97.49% during the financial year which is the highest since commissioning of this unit.  Earlier highest PLF was 93.18% during 2007-08.

 Heat rate of unit-6th (210 MW) during 2009-10 remained 2702 kcal/kwh which is 2nd lowest since commissioning of this unit. 1st  lowest Heat Rate was 2701 Kcal/kwh during 2007-08.

 The forced outage factor of the unit remained 2.47% during this year which is the 2nd lowest since commissioning of this unit. 1st lowest was 1.44% during 2006-07.

 

(Unit 7):

 The unit was commissioned on coal firing on 28-09-04 & dedicated on commercial run w.e.f 29-12-2004.

 Year highest P.L.F. of unit-7th (250 MW) remained 98.40% during this financial year which is the 2nd highest since commissioning of this unit.  First highest PLF was 98.91% during 2007-08.

 The Specific oil consumption of unit 7 remained 0.37 ml/kwh which is the lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of this unit.

 Heat rate of unit 7 remained 2457 kcal/kwh which is 2nd lowest since commissioning of the unit. 1st  lowest Heat Rate was 2452 Kcal/kwh during 2008-09.

 Monthly highest P.L.F. of Unit 7 (250 MW) remained 103.09% during May, 2009.  Earlier highest PLF was 102.80% during Nov., 2006.

 The monthly lowest Specific oil consumption of unit 7 remained 0.05 ml/kwh during 11/2009 which is the 2nd lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of this unit.  1st lowest sp. oil consumption was 0.02 ml/kwh during 06/2008.

 Plant utilization factor of the unit remained 102.29% which is the 1st highest.  Earlier highest was 102.18% during the year 2007-08.

 The forced outage factor the unit remained 2.28% during this year which is the 2nd lowest since commissioning of this unit.  1st lowest was 2.07% during 2008-09

 

 (Unit 8):

 The unit was commissioned on coal firing on 28-01-05 & dedicated on commercial run w.e.f 08-04-2005.

 Unit-8th (250 MW) generated 2122.786 MU (PLF 96.93%) during 2009-10 which is the highest generation and PLF of this unit since  its commissioning.  Earliest PLF was 94.41% during 2008-09.

 Sp. oil consumption of Unit-8 has come out to be 0.49 ml/kwh during this FY, which is the 2nd lowest since the commissioning of this unit.  1st lowest sp. oil consumption was 0.35 ml/kwh during 2007-08.

 Monthly highest P.L.F. of Unit-8th (250 MW) remained 104.30% during 05/2009 which is the highest during a month since commissioning of this unit.  Earlier highest PLF was 103.96% during Feb., 2009.

 The monthly Specific oil consumption of unit 8 remained 0.02 ml/kwh during 11/2009 which is the 2nd lowest specific oil consumption since commissioning of this unit.  1st lowest sp. oil consumption was 0.01 ml/kwh during 02/2009.

 Unit-8th (250 MW) remained in continuous operation from 15-10-09/20:32 hrs to 14-12-09/09:30 hrs=59 days which is the 2nd highest continuous running since commissioning of the unit.  1st highest continuous running of this unit of 61 in year 2006-07.

 Daily highest generation from the unit remained 6.374 MU(106.23%) on 10-04-2009 which is the highest one day generation since the commissioning of the unit.

 Plant utilization factor of the unit remained 102.60% which is the highest since the inception of the unit.  Earlier it was 102.25% during the year 2007-08 and 2008-09.

 Appreciation by Honorable Prime Minister of India :

 Appreciation of Honorable Prime Minister of India was conveyed by the Secretary, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India to Chairman HSEB for achieving targets during the first half of year 1997-98 (Target fixed by CEA for first half of the year 1997-98 was 1278 MU against which actual generation was 1367.294 MU).

 Appreciation by his Excellency President of India :

 Panipat Thermal Power Station was awarded letter of appreciation by His Excellency President of India at Vigyan Bhawan New Delhi on dated 24-08-2004 for good performance of plant during year 2003-04.

 Special Incentive by H.S.E.B. :

 HSEB awarded special incentive of 10 days pay to all employees of the plant for achieving record generation during 1996-97 (2753.631 MU against target of 2700 MU) and 1997-98 (2868.835 MU against target of 2800 MU)

 Special Incentive by HPGCL :

 HPGCL awarded special incentive of 7 days pay to all employees of the plant for achieving outstanding performance during the year 1999-2000.

In addition to this HPGCL awarded Special incentive of one day pay to all the employees of plant for achieving 99.34% PLF on dated 05-02-2004.
